A Poem, “Twice Born”

Every child is born only once from its mother’s womb,
Then, so once again, as it resides in an outside world.
An environment, hostile to its little face, of its nature,
As if from an innocent sanctuary, it is being so hurled.
It brings with its small figure, a list of its generic facts,
Affecting it in many ways for those future times ahead.
Did its mother smoke, drink alcohol, or use any drugs,
While inside of her, it could cause him much to dread?
Taking two parents to make a child whole, its lively hood,
its upbringing done right, both to help, as each one should.
How the babe to withstand, enduring all, in its early years,
To decide its fate, how it does advance, conquering all fears.
An understanding teacher, a loving one who really so cares,
makes the difference, how each performs, how well it fares.
Then in its own time and way, understands the golden rule,
Showing respect for all others, transcends its time in school.
Attention deficit, hyperactivity, behavior problems, of its need,
Every child so different, not always can express itself, to succeed.
Yet, some of the greatest give so much to our society, enriches all,
like DaVinci, Michaelangelo, Beethoven and others so small.
For in dealing with their weaknesses, greater strengths do reside,
Held inside by such miraculous ones, revealed to this, our society.
Never in our grandest dreams such magnificence, then is displayed,
Showing to everyone, just how much when given a chance, is made.
Sweet babes greet this world of ours, are created again in every way,
Just how each one lives a happy life, makes the most of its everyday.
Is up to us, as parents, teachers, friends, and all those who may care,
Helping a newborn child, giving it a future, love that we all do share.
